COP3 - Survey Results

From the survey, I looked at the results that I got.

1. What do you use to decide what film to watch?

I found that most people use IMDB or the Internet to look at films, and looking at the IMDB website I can see what information they include on a film profile.
They include:

  • Rating
  • Genre
  • Duration
  • Release date
  • Intro
  • DVD Cover
  • Cast
  • Director
  • Writer
  • Related films
  • Quotes

Given that IMDB and the Internet are the most popular choices, and DVD case is the least popular, it suggests that having using the Internet is more accessible. This is because it's easier for people to look at a wider variety of information when they want. Having an app furthers this, because it's available at people's fingertips whenever they want it - with a computer users have to turn it on whereas 72% of people are always within 5ft of their phone.

2. What are the deciding factors for you when choosing what film to watch?

Cast is the most popular choice here, so it would be beneficial to give the user the option to search for films based on actors in the app. I think it would be helpful to be able to search for multiple actors, and then the results show films with both of them to start with as this is most relevant, then films with both of them in separately.

3. Would you rather see an image of a DVD cover or a scene from a movie when choosing one to watch?

Most people selected a scene from a movie, so this is the image I will show on the app when the movie results show. I think this is better because all other platforms use a DVD cover to display it, so this would be different. The format of it also fits in better with the shape of the phone, creating a better interface. It still gives an insight to the feel of the film as a DVD cover would.

4. How often do you watch films?

With daily and weekly being the most common options, it shows that it is a daily task that people do. This fits in with my essay topic, creating synergy between the two.

5. What platform do you watch films on?

The most popular answers are on Netflix and the Internet, showing that people utilise the technology around them to watch films. This suggests they are also likely to use an app to help them make a decision.

6. What's your favourite film(s)?

This provided a variety of answers, and gives me some options to include some in my app.

7. What's your favourite film genre?

Comedy is the winner here, so I thought it would good to include this as the example in my app.

8. Would you use an app that suggests films based on your mood and preference?

Everyone said yes to this answer, showing that it would be an effective app. An app can look great, but if people don't need it or want to use it, then it won't be successful. This shows that it can be a successful app.
